Description
Shortstop (Paclobutrazol) is a soil-applied tree growth regulator that controls growth in the crown by up to 90%. The tree grows more slowly, requires less pruning and can allocate resources to root, storage, and defense systems. Paclobutrazol can reduce chlorosis, control growth, prevent drought stress, and aid trees affected by construction damage. Sold by the gallon or four-gallon case.
Details
- Reduce tree growth for up to 3 years with a single application.
- Measure the tree diameter and use the label provided to determine the exact application rate.
- Treated trees hold up better under stress due to heat, water, pollution, insects or disease than untreated trees.
- Create healthier trees by increasing root hair growth and associated increased drought tolerance.
- Require less pruning and provide added tolerance to certain diseases and insects.
- 1 gallon will make 12 gallons of product when diluted - consult the label for proper mixing instructions.
Other Benefits: Treatment results in an improved the root to shoot ratio. The shift in energy resources results in development of new fibrous roots and enhancement of existing roots. The enhanced root development dramatically results in increased drought tolerance and increased nutrient uptake, which produce a darker green and healthier tree. Trees growing in lawns and urban locations can especially benefit.
Application: Paclobutrazol is applied as a solution around the base of the tree. The specific amount depends on the type and size of the tree. The growth control is approximately 50% in the first year and as much as 90% the following years. Effective growth control generally lasts for about 3 years. However, if product is reapplied on a regular basis, growth control will remain at approximately 90%.
